(from GSUSA): We have exciting news! Girl Scouts of the USA’s “Building a Better World” float will return to the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade® on Thursday, November 23, 2017. This year, Grammy Award nominee singer-songwriter Andra Day will perform her moving anthem “Stand Up for Something,” from the film Marshall, on the Girl Scout float alongside Grammy Award–winning hip-hop icon and actor Common, who co-wrote the song.
The Girl Scout float’s design showcases a century of traditions and
highlights today’s girls as capable of making great changes to benefit
society, echoing the chorus of Andra and Common’s song: “It all means
nothing if you don't stand up for something.” The float also features
three Citizen badges (Celebrating Community, Inside Government, and
Public Policy), which highlight Girl Scouts’ legacy of leadership and
community action and will serve as encouragement for viewers to take
action themselves through the newly launched G.I.R.L. Agenda Powered by Girl Scouts. This nonpartisan initiative inspires, prepares, andmobilizes every G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™ to lead positive change through civic action. By making age-appropriate resources, based on our proven programming, accessible to all for the first time ever, the G.I.R.L. Agenda will give hundreds of thousands of girls and adults who care about them tangible ways to stand up for what they believe in.
