Feeling the Pressure

Meet Pedro and Diego. They started out as identical twin Styrofoam heads, crisp and white and ready for crafting. I first made their acquaintance at a craft store in Ventura. Very quickly, though, with the help from some Sharpies, they started to change.

First, I needed to add their names. Each got his name on the back of his neck. Diego, because I was boarding the ship in San Diego, and Pedro because San Pedro is where I disembark.

Then each got an octopus (my favorite creature).

Then I had family, friends, co-workers, and shipmates sign and decorate Diego and Pedro.

Why? One of them is going to experience the water pressure in a deep sea environment. One of them will be strapped to Argus and sent down on a dive next week. The other will stay behind.

Which one, you ask? Well, YOU get to decide! We want to know which one you think should feel the pressure. Find me on Twitter @melissa_baffa and let me know which one should get the squeeze. Use the hashtags #PedrovDiego and #NautilusLive (and encourage your friends and family to vote as well).

Who will feel the pressure? You decide!
During the deepest dive next week, one will go on the ride of a lifetime. You decide which one.

The above is part of a multi-part series to run over the next couple of weeks. Melissa Baffa, Vice President of Program and Volunteer Services for GSCCC, will be joining the Corps of Exploration again this year, exploring the deep sea aboard the E/V Nautilus. This blog series will chronicle her dive into the Unknown.
