What's New - May GSCCC eBulletin

MEMORIAL DAY IDEA
many-waving-flags.jpg
Many Girl Scout Troops will participate in Memorial Day parades and rememberance events this month.  In addition to paying tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom, girls can show appreciation to someone currently serving our country.  Have your girls write thank you notes or draw pictures to be included in the Girl Scout cookie packages being sent to deployed military.  Please mail your letters to: For the Troops, 2960 Cochran St, Simi Valley, CA 93065.  The sweet cookies and hand-written notes are sure to put a smile on a soldiers face.

GOLD AWARD CENTENNIAL / ANNUAL MEETING
Over 200 participants attended the 2016 Annual Meeting held on April 9 in Ventura.  New Board Members were inducted and 48 Gold Award recipients were honored in a Gold Award Centennial Celebration.  Girl Scouts in vintage uniforms conducted the opening flag ceremony. Guests were treated to an inspirational video highlighting various GSCCC Highest Honor recipients, including several mother-daughter pairs, and a Curved Bar recipient.

Start a troop with the younger sisters and friends of the girls you have in your current troop. Reach out to your local Preschool and offer the opportunity of Girl Scouts to their older girls. Have your Older Girls reach out and help to lead a new younger troop as a fun summer activity. Need more ideas or help? Contact your Service Unit Community Liason or Membership Manager.

Program

ARE GIANT BUBBLES, SUGAR ART, AND POM-POM CATAPULTS A PART OF YOUR TROOP MEETINGS?

If not, come to the Arnaz Program Center Saturday, May 7 from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm and learn how to add these fun and exciting activities to your meetings. Adult Volunteers from ALL Troop Levels are welcome. Adult participants traveling from a distance are welcome to camp at Arnaz at no cost on Saturday and make new friends.

We're calling this FUN evening Adult STEAM Night (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). Yes, bubbles & pom-poms actually teach math & science lessons. It's like getting your kids to eat their veggies by hiding them in the spaghetti sauce.

EXPLORE THE OCEAN LIVE AGAIN THIS SUMMER!
Last year, we explored the deep sea near the Galápagos Islands with GSCCC staff Melissa Baffa aboard the E/V Nautilus . She is going to sea again, and this time, exploring the ocean right off our own California coast! She will be aboard the ship from August 1-14.
Many activities are being developed to support this unique experience throughout the summer, including ship tours and opportunities for troops and individual girls to "dive deep" alongside Melissa. Watch your email inbox for more details, the GSCCC Events Calendar, and the GSCCC blog.
In the meantime, mark your calendar for May 12, the start of the diving season for the E/V Nautilus. Explore the deep sea LIVE alongside the Corps of Exploration, at www.nautiluslive.org  Read about Melissa's previous adventure in her blog posts from last year.
