Brownie Troop Brings Holiday Cheer to Seniors in Newbury Park

Girl Scout Brownie Troop 63036 would like to share a "budding" holiday tradition with you...

Brownie Troop 63036 (and two Juniors from Troop 63035 -- older siblings to girls in 63036!) from St. Paschal Baylon School sang Christmas carols and Girl Scout songs to senior citizens at Mary Health of the Sick in Newbury Park on Wednesday, December 7th. The girls also crafted Christmas trees and wreaths beforehand to hand out to the seniors!

The girls sang with big smiles and big voices to residents in the dining hall. The girls also visited a few special patients and sang in their rooms. One of the resident's doctors told the girls that, "they were the best medicine his patients could receive!"

The girls agreed that they were spreading Christmas cheer which benefited the nursing home residents and themselves, and we agree that this is a wonderful tradition to carry on both during the holidays and at any time of the year. Go Troop 63036 (and 63035) for bringing heartfelt warmth and cheer to those who need it most during the holiday season!

The troop hopes to continue this tradition each year and are thinking of including other troops from their school and making this a St. Paschal Baylon event.

Operation Snowflake

On Saturday, Girl Scout Troop #60192 from Girl Scouts of California's Central Coast, distributed nut and candy items to military families in need.

About 280 children from active duty or veteran families received Girl Scout nut and candy items. The local veteran’s center in Ventura, the VA clinic in Oxnard, and Vietnam Veterans of Ventura County non-profit each received a few cases as well. The remaining cases were given to the Naval Base Ventura County air-wing units and will be sent overseas when they deploy in early January.

Many of the families at Operation Snowflake were interested in learning more about joining scouting. If you are interested in becoming a Girl Scout too, please contact

Senior Girl Scouts Ginny Fraser and Shelby Richards of Troop #60192 at Operation Snowflake (sponsored by the Ventura County Military Collaborative).

Karen Fraser (troop leader) hosted the event.

GSCCC Celebrates the Holidays!

"‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all thro’ the house,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,

In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there . . ."

Ho Ho Ho! Everyone's getting jolly at the GSCCC offices today! To kick-off the holiday season, we did a sock swap (with new socks, of course!) in merry colors to celebrate the holiday season. We filled them up with goodies, then modeled the festive footwear below:

The festivities continued with a cookie tasting (paired with hot chocolate!)  . . .

. . . and a merry time was had by all!

Girl Scouts Plant Native Milk-Weed to Attract Monarch Butterflies

PG&E biologist and the Girl Scouts of California’s Central Coast partnered to create a hands-on learning opportunity for local Los Osos girl scouts to earn their Monarch patch in San Luis Obispo County.

The Monarch Butterfly Adventure took place this Saturday in light rain on the Diablo Canyon Power Plant north lands and gave attendees the opportunity to learn about the life-cycle of the monarch butterfly and plant native milk-weed, the primary food source of these butterflies.

The rain didn't stop these girls! To see more photos, click here.
