Local Troop Visits Police Department to Donate Toys During the Holidays

Daisy and Brownie Troop 61135 stopped by Ventura Police Department on November 28 to donate toys for The Castro Family and Ventura Police Community Foundation Toy Drive.

They were also treated to a tour of the station during which they were able to meet a number of female officers, dispatchers, and civilian staff - including Sgt. Starr who is pictured.

In 2008, Corey Castro was 7 and began monthly infusions for a rare bone disease known as Gorham's Disease at the hospital. As a patient, he was asked if he wanted a gift from the center's toy box.

Corey noticed the toy box was low and asked his family if they could fill it for other children receiving services at the center. The Castro family sent out emails and letters to friends and within a few weeks they received approximately $5,000 in toys.

Their effort, supported by Ventura Police, has provided toys and gifts to more than 1,200 children. Their work also raises awareness for the only pediatric oncology and hematology center in Ventura County. (Story credit: VC Star.)

Are you ready to take the lead like a Girl Scout?

(from http://blog.girlscouts.org/)

Check out our new “I’m Prepared” PSA and get inspired to unleash a lifetime of leadership and positive change.

Ever get the feeling that a lot of people out there think Girl Scouts is just about cookies, badges, and friendship bracelets?

That’s why it’s time to show the world everything that Girl Scouts are capable of—designing robots and standing up to bullying, conserving the environment and finding sustainable solutions to other real-world problems. And of course, practicing leadership early and often.

When a Girl Scout sets her mind on a goal, there is absolutely no stopping her. She is a Go-getter. She’s an Innovator. She’s a Risk-taker. She’s a Leader. She’s a G.I.R.L.! And giving back is in her DNA. So is standing up to the challenge, no matter how big or small.

For more than 100 years, Girl Scouts has helped transform millions of girls into the leaders and change-makers of today and tomorrow. How do we do it? Through a unique program that equips girls with the courage, confidence, and character to, first, realize they have the power to make the world a better place, and then go out and make it happen.

The best part? Whatever your age, gender, or background, Girl Scouts has opportunities for you to take the lead and make amazing things happen in your community and around the world. Yes!

Are you ready to realize the magic of your full potential and build a better world with Girl Scouts? Check out our brand-new public service announcement, featuring our also-new “Watch Me Shine” Girl Scout anthem. It will inspire you to stand up, think big, and take the lead like a Girl Scout!

Early Look at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, featuring Girl Scouts!

Thanksgiving is almost here and we are thrilled to provide a "sneak peek" into the incredible Girl Scouts-themed float for the 90th Anniversary Macy’s Day Thanksgiving Day Parade® and how our innovative Girl Scouts are “Building a Better World"!

On the float, (pictured below and featured on the Today Show this morning), girls will be "building a better world" by climbing and belaying on giant 3-D puzzle pieces that form a globe, using levers to connect the pieces. The float's features and activities represent what Girl Scouts past and present have done and continue to do as they take action locally and globally. From discovering new things and participating in outdoor adventures to developing entrepreneurship skills and exploring science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), Girl Scouts are taking the lead to positively impact our world.

Although this year will mark the 90th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, you don’t have to wait until next week to start enjoying it! John Piper, vice president and lead designer of the Macy’s Parade studio, shares a preview of the newest attractions, including the Girl Scouts’ “Build a Better World” float on Today Show.

The 90th Anniversary Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade airs nationwide on NBC-TV, Thursday, November 24, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to noon, in all time zones.
