The Harlem Globetrotters is an exhibition basketball team that combines athleticism, theater, and comedy. The legacy of the team began on the south side of Chicago in the 1920's and has grown to an international sensation touring the globe and spreading their love of basketball. The Globetrotter's acts often feature incredible coordination and skillful handling of one or more basketballs, such as passing or juggling balls between players, balancing or spinning balls on their fingertips, and making unusual, difficult shots. In 1985 they signed their first female player and eight women have played on the team since.

Its Your World Change It

This project helped the girls earn one of their journey badges for “It’s Your World—Change It,” which is made up of a series of tasks that helped Girls understand what it means to be a leader and make a difference in the world. The badge is also a step toward the Bronze Award, which is the first of three Leadership awards leading to earning the Gold Award, the highest in Girl Scouts.

Girl Scouts CEO On The Importance Of Encouraging Girls To Enter STEM Fields

Girl Scouts CEO Anna Maria Chavez shares her thoughts on what we can do to encourage girls into emerging fields.
Last night, President Obama talked about the state of our union, and if there was a single theme he returned to again and again, it was this: Our leaders in Washington are setting the course for our economy’s future, and the middle class must be the engine that drives that future.
Small business and the spirit of entrepreneurialism helped build America into the world power it is today, and they will continue to be important drivers of our economy as we move further into the 21st century. But as the President also affirmed, our shared economic future also depends upon our pipeline of workers pursuing careers in STEM fields—science, technology, engineering, and math.

Learn how to be a business SAVVY cookie seller at the Annual COOKIE
UNIVERSITY! Hundreds of Girl Scouts will kick-off the 2015 Cookie Season with a series of hands-on and interactive booths that will add the WOW factor to cookie sales. Girls will earn their 2015 Cookie Activity pin, Cookie University patch and complete parts of their Financial Literacy and Cookie Business badges.

Soroptomist International of Ventura is now accepting applications for the Violet Richardson Award. Girls in Ventura, ages 14-17 who are actively volunteering in the community are encouraged to apply. Deadline is February 1, 2014.
